The mission of IHPCO is to educate the people of Indiana about end-of-life choices.
- To enhance and enrich end-of-life experiences for Hoosiers bynormalizing communication about death and dying issues;
- To empower an informed public to understand and choose options that support their own end-of-life care goals;
- To increase consumer awareness and participation in end-of-life decision making;
- To promote quality end-of-life care that is available to all terminally ill persons and their families regardless of age, gender, nationality, race, creed, sexual orientation, disability, diagnosis, geographical location, availability of a primary caregiver, or ability to pay;
- To promote access to care for the terminally ill and their families that is skilled, humane, cost-effective, and appropriate; access to programs where pain and other symptoms can be controlled and where emotional, spiritual and social needs can be met;
- To protect the interests of the terminally ill, their loved ones and the professionals who care for them through legislative initiative and health care reform;
- To clearly identify hospice and palliative care as distinct and definable health care alternatives for the care of the terminally ill;
- To increase awareness and understanding of the philosophy and principles of hospice and palliative care.
